Maharashtra Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 3112 out of 3237 candidates, who are contesting in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections.
Key Findings:
1. Crorepati Candidates: Out of the 3112 candidates analysed, 1007(32%) are crorepatis. In 2014 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, out of 2336 candidates, 1095 (47%) were crorepatis.
2. Party wise Crorepati Candidates: Among major parties, 155(96%) out of 162 candidates analysed from BJP, 126(86%) out of 147 candidates analysed from INC, 116(94%) out of 124 candidates analysed from SHS, 101 (87%) out of 116 candidates analysed from NCP and 52(53%) out of 99 candidates from MNS have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.
3. Average assets: The average of assets per candidate analysed in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections is Rs 4.21 Crores. In 2014 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, average assets per candidate for 2336 candidates analysed was Rs. 4.65 crores.
4. Party wise average assets: Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 162 BJP candidates is Rs. 23.58 crores, 147 INC candidates are Rs 14.78 crores, 124 SHS candidates have average assets of Rs 12.57 crores, 116 NCP candidates have average assets worth Rs 11.43 crores, 99 MNS candidates have average assets worth Rs 2.29 crores and 1359 Independent candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.71 crore.
